Willie Curry, age 36, of Brentwood, was indicted on attempted murder and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Prosecutors said Curry ambushed his ex-wife as she sat in the drive-through lane of a Bay Shore McDonald’s at around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
He rode up on an electric bicycle, ran around to her opened drive side window and began repeatedly stabbing her, prosecutors alleged. The attack only stopped when the woman drove forward a short distance and a good Samaritan got out of their car and intervened.
Another witness checked on the victim while they and McDonald’s employees called the police. Curry was arrested at the scene.
The victim was taken to South Shore University Hospital, where doctors determined she had been stabbed more than 20 times. She received staples and stitches to close wounds on her neck, face, chest, leg, and hands.
According to prosecutors, the attack unfolded just one day after the woman obtained an order of protection from Suffolk Court Family Court. Details of those proceedings were not immediately available, though Curry was ordered to stay away from the woman.
Curry is facing over a half dozen criminal charges, including attempted murder assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was ordered jailed on a $1 million bond.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said the “brutal and calculated attack” highlights the “devastating reality” of domestic violence.
“Our office takes domestic violence cases with the utmost seriousness,” he said.
If convicted, Curry faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
